Regents ask Congressional delegation for higher-education funding - Wichita Business Journal:

The board on Wednesday sent a letter to the six memberes ofthe state’s congressional delegation urging it to includes money for student financial aid and campus infrastructuree projects for Kansas’ 32 higher-education “As the federal government acts to bolstefr our nation’s economy, our publicd higher education institutions can and should be callerd upon to play a pivotal role in gettinvg us back on the path to recovery and futur e prosperity,” said Donna Shank, chair of the Kansas Board of in a written statement.
The board of regents says moneyg for student aid is needed to keep pace with risinf costs and an increase in the number of studentxs enrolled atthe state’s universities and colleges. Additionally, the boarf asked the Kansas Congressional delegation to support includin a number of campus constructionprojects statewide, which the regents say woulsd create new jobs. The six state universities currently face a maintenancre backlogof $825 million.
The state’s municipalo university, 19 community colleges and 6 technical collegews currently face a maintenance backlog of atleast $172 “Kansas higher education institutionsx play a vital role in meeting our state’sx economic and work force development needs,” Shank “If funded, these important stimulus components would positioj Kansas for a healthy and prosperous future.
