And, while research has shown that generics have savedx the health care system anestimatecd $734 billion in the last 10 two-thirds of those surveyed don’t know the true cost differencew between generic and brand name drugs, according to the survey conducted by , a leadinv pharmacy benefit management organization. “Using generics helpsa make health care more affordable withouttcompromising results,” Jacqueline Kosecoff, Prescription Solutions CEO said in a news “Many Americans erroneously believe that the most expensived drug is always the most effective drug, so by helpinb to change perceptions, we can help people save money and stil l get the best treatment available.
” Thirty-one percengt of respondents indicated they knew that a brand name drug cost 50-7 percent more on average than its generic counterpart. Seventy-one percent of consumers remain concerned about drug cost s with more than one infour (27 having either delayed filling, not filled, or not takenb as directed a prescription drug to save Twenty-one percent of all respondents say they have talkecd to their doctor recently about switching to a less expensivd drug. Fifty-seven percent of those polledf said they take prescriptiondrugws weekly. Of those, 83 percent (or 47 percent of the totakl sample) take generics.
Of those who do not take generic druge on aweekly basis, 58 percent say it is becauswe there is no generic available for the drug they Sixty-four percent of those who take generics say theird doctor recommended them and 43 percent say their pharmacist recommendes them. Of those who do not take generic drugws on aweekly basis, 58 percentr say they would if theirf pharmacist brought a generic to theire attention as a less expensive, identical substitute; and 52 percent say theird doctor would have to recommend it.
